Pelham Art Center was founded in 1969 and is a non-profit multi-arts organization whose mission is to give area residents and visitors a place and the opportunity to see, study and experience the arts in a community setting. Located in southern Westchester County, many artists and more than 16,000 people are served by free and affordable education and public programs that include: classes and workshops, exhibitions and public programs, outreach, and special events. The Center owns and occupies a 5,500 s.f. facility in downtown Pelham, NY, has 2 full and 4 part-time staff, three dozen artist contractors, seasonal staff, and an active Board of Directors.

This full-time position is key to Art Center operations, as well as to its education and outreach programs. The ideal candidate is extremely organized, pro-active, flexible, independent, and multi-tasks with ease. S/he communicates well with students of all ages, with art instructors, and the public.  A high proficiency in MS Office is a must; strong technology skills and experience with the Adobe Creative Suite highly desirable.

RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES:
EDUCATION & OUTREACH
*Research, plan and schedule educational art classes and  workshops for Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer semesters
*Plan and schedule outreach programs in local schools and community venues for after school and lunchtime enrichment programs
*Supervise front end operations including enrollments, registration, payments and rosters for classes
*Hire teaching artists, assistants, and school vacation counselors
*Create budgets and contracts for outreach venues and artists; negotiate instructor fees
*Oversee facility needs and supplies for programs, including studio organization and upkeep
*Review and approve need-based scholarship applications
*Assist with marketing education and outreach programs to the media and the public, including social networking and creating eblasts using Constant Contact
*Work with staff to plan and manage fundraising events
*Manage events pertaining to education and outreach
*Perform and oversee kiln firings for ceramics classes

ADMINISTRATION & OPERATIONS:
*Maintain and create (as needed) file management systems for classes, events, and fundraisers; thorough knowledge of Excel and Google Docs a must
*Update database (currently  Microsoft Access)
*Maintain office computer network
*Website updating and maintenance using a CMS
*Create ads  for Art Center classes, workshops, and events

SKILLS and EXPERIENCE:
*BA or MA in related field and 3+ yrs work in a cultural organization or comparable field
*Interest and knowledge of nonprofit arts
*Ability to interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds
*Excellent keyboarding, technology management, and computer skills including: web applications, Excel spreadsheets, databases, automated mailings, and schedules. Software: MS Office, Photoshop, InDesign, Constant Contact. Networked PC/MACs
*Excellent editing, writing, and visual information skills
*Proven success in planning and implementing successful projects from beginning to end
*Experience in school or art school administration a plus
*Hands-on worker who must multi-task everyday
*Effective communicator of ideas and instructions
*Genuine affection for and interest in community development and art initiatives
*Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and ability to lift 25 lbs.
