Position Description: Coordinator of Live Animal Care; Museum Educator
Brooklyn Children’s Museum, the world’s first museum for children is
searching for a full-time Coordinator of Live Animal Care; Museum Educator.
This person will coordinate live animal care for the Museum’s reptiles,
amphibians, aquaria, invertebrates and birds, as well as develop and
facilitate educational programming. Coordinator will lead the team of
animal maintainers, interns, and volunteers that care for the Museum’s
animals in tasks including routine animal care, monitoring diets and
consumption, animal behavior reporting, and behavioral enrichment.
Responsibilities:• Oversee and coordinates care for Brooklyn Children’s
Museum live animal collection including reptiles, amphibians, aquaria,
invertebrates and birds.• Coordinate animal acquisition and de-accessions;
develop and maintain animal enclosures (both behind the scenes and on the
exhibit floor).• Supervise animal care staff as they perform routine animal
husbandry, monitor animal diets and consumption, observe and report on
animal behavior, and provide behavioral enrichment. Provide all staff
professional development and training to ensure high quality care of live
animal collection during educational programs.• In collaboration with
Manager of Science Education, coordinate live animal care budget, records,
permits, licenses, equipment and supplies. • Oversee live animal programs.
Develop and implement innovative school and public programs, teacher/parent
workshops, and multi-media materials; participate in community/school
collaborations; conduct outreach programming; other related programs and
projects.• Assist supervisors in the planning, research, and development of
grants and fundraising tools.• Supervise Animal Care interns and
volunteers. Recruit, train, mentor and evaluate interns and volunteers.•
Collaborate with the Education team to develop engaging environmental
science and engineering programs for school and family audiences.• Keep up
to date with current knowledge, expertise and latest industry advances.•
Other Education Department and Museum-wide duties as needed

Work Schedule:Full time, 5 days a week, including one weekend day, Sunday—

Qualifications: Qualifications: • B.A. / B.S. Degree in Animal Husbandry,
Animal Science, Zoology, Marine Biology, Conservation Biology, Wildlife
Management, Animal Behavior or related field and/or equivalent experience.
M.A./M.S.Ed. in Museum or Science Education, o

Salary: $36-38,000 depending upon experience
