GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Visitor Experience and Brand Management, manages the writing and editorial process through developing content, editing, and producing text for PMA communications. Writes, reviews, and revises materials to ensure professional quality and conformance to the PMA’s brand charter tosupport the goal of creating consistent and effective communications.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

¨      Manages the writing and editorial process to ensure all copy adheres to PMA brand standards including appropriate voice, tonality, and messaging.

 

¨      Achieves individual project goals by providing content and editing copy with 100 percent accuracy using correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation in accordance with the PMA’s brand standards and style guide.

¨      Creates, reviews, and revises existing print and online content to ensure consistent voice, tonality, and accurate messaging.

 

¨      Develops, implements, and manages systems to ensure no product is printed or displayed without appropriate editing for content and style.

 

¨      Contributes to the development and ongoing maintenance of PMA brand charter and style guide.

¨      Performs special projects and other related duties as required, directed, or as the situation dictates.
¨      Complies with all Portland Museum of Art safety rules and procedures.
¨      Regular attendance at the workplace is required.
 
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
None.
 
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or related field and at least five years experience in copywriting or proofreading.
QUALIFICATIONS:

¨      Succinct writing, proofing, and editing skills with a strong work ethic and desire to learn.

¨      Excellent command of language and ability to wordsmith.

¨      Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, highly productive, and collaborative work environment.

¨      Proficient in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat Creative Suite.

¨      Ability to work both independently and cooperatively with coworkers.

¨      Working knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop and other web design/photo editing software preferred.

¨      Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

¨      Ability to pass a criminal background check.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The majority of work is performed in a normal office environment not subject to extremes of noise, temperature, odor, etc.  Operates computer, printer, photocopier, fax machine, postage machine, and other office equipment. Work involves extended sitting and computer use.
TERMS:
 
The Content Writer and Editor position is a regular, part-time (20 hours per week), hourly, non-exempt, employment-at-will position. The hours will vary based on PMA’s business needs.
