OVERVIEW:The Cathedral of Saint John the Divine is one of the world¹s most
celebrated institutions. With its doors open to everyone, the Cathedral is
an international and vibrant space that draws approximately one million
visitors each year. As an exceptional learning resource for students of all
ages, Saint John the Divine provides numerous opportunities for visitors to
encounter, experience, and learn about the Cathedral in exciting and
stimulating ways. Its secular Department of Public Education & Visitor
Services (PEVS) seeks per diem Educators for the 2013-2014 academic year.

RESPONSIBILITIES:€ Collaborate with PEVS to provide programs for student
(pre-school through college), adult, and family groups.€ Teach
curriculum-based programs in the Cathedral with emphasis on such topics as
the Middle Ages, Geometry, Architecture, Comparative Religions, Music, and
Symbols.€ Lead a variety of hands-on activities related to the above topics
in PEVS Arts Workshops.€ Greet performing choirs in the Cathedral.€ Support
program development, visitor services, and departmental administration as
needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:€ Bachelor¹s degree and at least two years of formal
teaching experience in a museum or classroom. Master¹s degree in education,
museum education, or a related field ­ or working toward such a degree ­ is
preferred.€ Formal teaching experience with art materials and hands-on
activities.€ Comfort working with diverse audiences, especially students in
grades K-12.€ Strong listening, oral, and communication skills.€ Knowledge
of child development and familiarity with local and state curricular
standards.€ Experience with VTS and other educational models related to
personal and group learning.€ Interdisciplinary practices that combine
social studies and the visual arts in non-traditional learning
environments.€ Ability to assimilate information quickly &
enthusiastically; demonstrated flexibility in fast-paced environments.€
Self-starter who is dependable, organized, and punctual; who works well
independently and as part of a team.Qualifying candidates will be required
to lead a short sample tour of their choice to assess presentation skills,
pedagogy, group management techniques, organization, and time management.

SCHEDULE:€ Must have a flexible schedule and be available 3-4 days per
week, including weekends and occasional evenings. € Educators will work
approximately 5-15 hours per week. Hours vary depending on program
bookings. € Educators are required to attend a 2-week intensive training
program from September 16 ­ 27, 2013.€ Commitment through the 2013-2014
academic year is required.

Salary: $25-$50 per program depending on program bookings
