Motivated, self-starting individual needed to fill the position of Executive
Director at a small globally appealing and fast-growing history museum
which explores the engineering genius of John A. Roebling, the wire rope
industry he founded, and the company town of Roebling, New Jersey.
The Executive Director is responsible for carrying out the museum’s mission,
strategic direction and goals as approved in collaboration with and agreed to
by the museum’s board of directors; while working with the board to
recommend an annual operating budget and provide input for needed
procurement, employee staffing, and
contracted professional services. The successful candidate will be a fluent
communicator in spoken and written English, committed to offering
compelling exhibitions and programming, and versed in the requirements of
museum operations, content and exhibit/gallery design, fundraising, public
relations, and government outreach; and, is able to manage the human and
capital resources of the museum to ensure that the museum’s operations
comply with best practices for museums, museum accreditation standards,
legislative and regulatory policies, and operating plans approved by the
board of directors; and, is able to carry out board policies and recommend
necessary adjustments to
long and short-range goals to ensure the efficient, effective, and sustainable
attainment of the museum’s mission.
Salary range: $46,800 to $54,600 (based on 30 hours per week, paid every
two weeks). The starting salary may be negotiated based on the candidate’s
education and museum work experience.
Basic requirements:
· a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university;
· not less than three years’ experience working for a museum in an
administrative or curatorial capacity;
· a master’s degree in museum studies or history, or a bachelor’s degree
with an emphasis in museum
management, may be substituted for one year of the work experience
requirement; and,
· A driver’s license.
