Position Summary:

The International Museum of Women (IMOW) seeks a creative, tech-savvy and team-oriented media professional to serve as Content Producer for its next major global online exhibition, Ignite: Women Fueling Science and Technology. The Content Producer will contribute to all facets of the development and implementation of a media-rich online exhibition, including theme and content development, digital storytelling, writing and editing, multimedia production, partner and global community engagement, online and offline public program development and creation of toolkits and discussion guides.

The Content Producer will report to the IMOW Vice President of Exhibitions & Programs and will work closely with the IMOW team and our network of global project partners and participants. The ideal candidate will have a knack for creating popular content with viral potential and will be experienced in developing companion social media and action campaigns. A critical component of the role will be building audience engagement and high traffic goals into the content strategy. A solid understanding of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields, current STEAM (STEM + Arts) initiatives and a familiarity with current issues in women’s human rights globally are a must. Content Producer Responsibilities:


  • Contribute to over-all content development and production of a vibrant, highly trafficked online exhibition including the intellectual, conceptual, artistic and thematic framework of the project as well as the multimedia design, web specifications, creation, implementation, quality assurance and promotion.
  • Manage multimedia content creation for topic galleries and online installations including producing original media, sourcing existing content and facilitating crowd-sourced submissions. Ensure online and editorial standards and consistent creative direction across all components of project.
  • Research, write and edit exhibition scripts which may include videos, essays, interviews, captions, checklists, chronologies, info graphics and other multimedia content. Develop creative storylines, sub-themes and leading questions for online text, images, video, multimedia, and interactive content aimed at increasing public understanding of and engagement in the issues.
  • Engage IMOW’s internal team, board committees and content committees. Identify and collaborate with external subject matter experts, content advisors, content partners, contributors and global participants.
  • Collaborate with IMOW’s web development and design vendors to design, storyboard, produce and test various approaches to creating and displaying online and viral exhibition content for desktop, tablet and mobile applications.
  • Create teacher and educator resources including toolkits and discussion guides.
  • Contribute to the planning of online and offline events that inspire audiences and feature multimedia content from the online exhibition.
  • Utilize web marketing and editorial techniques, including social marketing tools, creative promotional talent and sophisticated design sensibility to develop viral campaigns.
  • Foster collaboration with partner organizations, sponsors, funders and community members and work with IMOW staff to develop effective global outreach plan.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the project which may include authoring blogs, writing op- eds, speaking to media, moderating programs and participating in fundraising presentations.
  • Develop project schedules and expense projections and manage day-to-day content timelines, deliverables and budgets. Ensure content production is on time and within budget. Prepare reports for museum and funders.
  • As necessary, contribute to the development of evaluation tools, media and public relations campaigns and participate in fundraising presentations.

Required Qualifications


  • Subject matter expertise and knowledge of keys players, recent developments, achievements and challenges for women in STEM fields.
  • Strong familiarity with current key issues in women’s human rights globally.
  • Established networks and connections with STEM/STEAM leaders and ability to leverage those connections to secure exhibition funding and sponsorship.
  • Minimum two years experience in digital storytelling, media development, documentary film and /or online publishing; demonstrated savvy in producing compelling, popular media rich content; and experience engaging younger audiences.
  • Excellent writing and copy editing skills. Editing/publishing/curatorial experience desirable.
  • Experience designing a compelling, interactive and intuitive experience for a website.
  • Experience developing and promoting media to drive a high level of website visits, working with a limited marketing budget.
  • Knowledge of best practices and new developments in web development, social marketing tools and multimedia technologies.
  • Excellent communication, collaborative and organizational abilities.
  • Strong project management skills including proven experience working with teams, budgets, project timelines and deliverables in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ability to recruit, train and manage project interns and volunteers.
  • Technical expertise with media editing tools and software a plus.
  • Multilingual skills are desirable.


This is a part-time, temporary consulting position. Candidates should be available to begin work in January 2014 and have availability through December 2014, with the possibility of extension. IMOW’s offices are located in San Francisco, and the Content Producer must be available for frequent in-person meetings.

The creativity, innovation and talent of women and girls are critical to fueling the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Yet–despite increasing recognition that STEM is essential to the world’s economic growth–women globally are missing, under-represented and dropping out from STEM fields. The International Museum of Women intends to tackle the critical problem of women’s participation in STEM by inspiring and educating girls and young women through cutting edge multi-media art, video and digital story-telling.

Ignite: Fueling Women in Science and Technology, a free global online exhibition scheduled to launch in fall 2014, will showcase inspiring, global STEM role models, with content, stories and art sourced from women around the world. The result will be one of the world’s the richest global content repositories on women and STEM.

About the Project Team

The Content Producer will be an integral part of the project team, working closely with IMOW staff, global partners and participants, project interns, advisory and board committees, subject matter experts and consultants. The Producer will report to IMOW’s Vice President of Exhibitions & Programs.
