Program Assistant [America for Bulgaria Foundation]

The ABF Program Assistant (ABF PA) of the Archaeological and Anthropological Grant Opportunities in Bulgaria (AAGOB) program at The Field Museum assists with the development and enhancement of the program and administers the process of funding archaeological and anthropological research, museum sites, and collections in Bulgaria. The position is funded by the America for Bulgaria Foundation.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing grant applications and updating them annually; maintaining and improving the online grant application system
  • Enhancing advertisement and distribution of grant application materials for prospective candidates
  • Maintaining existing website and social media accounts
  • Creating printed materials including pamphlets, brochures, and posters to promote the program’s activities and grant applications and distributing these materials to the American and Bulgarian archaeological, anthropological and museum communities
  • Working directly with authorities from Bulgaria and the Bulgarian community in Chicago
  • Organizing events such as lectures and receptions for the ABF program and present the program’s achievements to the American and Bulgarian attendees of these events
  • Additional responsibilities of the ABF PA include making all necessary arrangements for the annual ABF Advisory Committee Meeting and preparing the committee’s decisions for presentation to the ABF
  • Providing narrative and financial reports to the foundation
  • Making all travel, visa, and work arrangements for the Postdoctoral Fellows at the Field Museum
  • Working with the ABF Archaeological and Anthropological Program interns and volunteers, when needed
  • BA in Business or Finance, Anthropology, Balkan Studies, or another related field
  • 1 to 2 years of administrative or grant administrative experience
  • Experience developing and managing budgets
  • Superior computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills
  • Excellent communication (writing and verbal) skills
  • Problem solving, decision making, and team building skills
  • Experience or training in web and graphic design, filming, and advertisement is desirable
  • Proficiency in Bulgarian language is desirable
