Position Summary Information

 

Job Summary The Curator of Education and Public Programs is responsible to serve as the museum education programming coordinator for the Forsyth Galleries. Responsible for volunteer docent recruitment and training. Handles all event requests for use of the Forsyth Galleries.
Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in art history, art education, museum studies or related field and 2 years of museum education experience or Master’s degree in art history, art education, museum studies or related field and some museum education experience.
Preferred Education and Experience Master’s degree in art history, art education, museum studies or related field is strongly preferred. 3 years of museum education experience.
Required Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 60 days of employment.

Required Special Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills Ability to develop interpretation for a diverse community with an emphasis on college student audience. Skill in judgment and decision making which will create a forward thinking and visitor focused environment.

Detailed Job Duties

 

Duties Performed In consultation with the director, develops, coordinates and implements museum educational programs, including tours, lectures, workshops for children and adults, special classes, lesson plans, exhibit guides and other print and electronic resources. Responsible for the Forsyth Galleries’ outreach to community audiences; this may require operation of a University or other motor vehicle. Teaches diverse audiences in the museum, including adults, school groups, college students. Promotes interdisciplinary collaborations, partnerships, and links with other university departments and community organizations.
Duties Performed Recruit, train and oversee volunteer docents. In consultation with director, manage museum education budget.
Duties Performed Handles all requests by outside groups wishing to use the Forsyth Galleries for their events, including scheduling, set ups, and informing the clients of the rules and restrictions for use of the space.
Duties Performed Work with Curator of Education to compile and analyze program statistics and to identify and recommend program improvements for both Stark and Forsyth Galleries. Write grants and reports as needed.
Duties Performed Assist with the installation and take down of exhibitions at the Forsyth Galleries.
Duties Performed Represent the department on Division of Student Affairs committees as assigned. Perform other related duties as required.
