POSITION OVERVIEW
The Development Assistant will be responsible for all administrative aspects
of the Development Department and supporting overall department activities
to carry out the organization’s mission and vision.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 Managing the department calendar, timesheets, meeting minutes, and
setting up tours of the Memorial and Museum.
 Administrative tasks (e.g., answering phones, mailings, creating
nametags, follow-up calls, donor record maintenance) and additional
assignments as needed.
 Play a key administrative role in the execution of high-profile special
events (including annual benefit, annual 5K Run/Walk, donor
appreciation receptions and other events as needed).
 Assisting with the drafting of letters, briefings, general information,
grant proposals and reports as directed.
 Conducting research on potential donors, corporations and foundations.
 Draft solicitation and thank you letters on behalf of the Development
staff, Senior Staff, and the Board of Directors.
 Assisting with the Individual Membership program.
 Helping with composition of funding proposals and grant writing as
needed.
 Assisting with the creation of communications and marketing materials.
 Responsible for updating all donor contact information in Raiser’s Edge.
 Provide occasional assistance outside the normal schedule to
accommodate and support the office.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIREMENT:
 Bachelor’s Degree required.
 Professional OR internship experience in an office environment,
preferably a non-profit.
 Strong computer skills – proficiency in full suite of Microsoft Office
applications required and experience with Raiser’s Edge preferred.
 Must be able to work closely with other members of the Development
team and assist where needed, including providing research and
preparing for events and other fundraising initiatives.2
 Excellent communication skills necessary, including the ability to write
and speak clearly and effectively with all stakeholders (Board of
Directors, 9/11 Family Members, staff, donors, etc.).
 Ability to collaborate effectively with all departments on a variety of
initiatives.
 Professional, friendly, and enthusiastic personality.
