The Houston Maritime Museum has an immediate opening for an Executive Director. The position is a prime career opportunity for a self-motivated leader with museum management experience.  The Houston Maritime Museum is in the process of expanding and relocating to a new world-class museum with the grand opening scheduled for 2015. The successful candidate will lead this project through building and exhibit design with extensive support from a very engaged Board of Directors. The Executive Director is responsible for the overall operations of the museum, with the assistance of a strong staff, dedicated docents and board members.  Promotion and development of the Museum with organizations, corporations and individuals is a primary objective obtained through presentations, expositions and networking.  Other duties include management of the operations and capital campaign budget, the monthly history and career lecture series, museum tours and events, staff management, and oversight of the museum databases and website. Prior museum or not for profit experience is a plus but not essential. Prior successful experience and proven track record with fundraising would be ideal. A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required, ideally in Museum Studies, History, Anthropology or a related field but not required as other qualifications will also be considered.
