The Field Museum’s School Partnerships and Programs Team provides innovative programs and resources to Pre-K to 12th-grade educators and students connected to the Museum’s world-class scientific collections and research. As a member of this team, the School Programs Coordinator’s primary role is to develop and implement programming for teachers and students both at the Museum, and in local schools. Additionally, he/she is responsible for developing a plan for and coordinating related efforts to improve the overall field trip experience for school groups. The School Programs Coordinator’s primary supervisor is the School Partnerships Administrator, however he/she works closely with the School Partnerships and Programs Manager as well.

Job Duties


Responsibilities include:

  • On-site Field Trip Experiences and Student Programs (50%)
    • Collaborate with School Programs Administrator to develop and implement cohesive vision for on-site Student Programs and field trip experiences aligned with Next Generation Science Standards and National Council of Social Studies standards
    • Implement on-site student programs (2 days per week)
    • Develop inquiry-based instructional materials and resources
    • Collaborate with Reservations Office and Guest Relations staff to improve overall field trip experience
    • Support evaluation and assessment of on-site student programs, experiences, and related resources
  • Educator Programs and School Partnerships (40%)
    • Support development and implementation of school partnerships: collaborate with partners to plan programs, develop relationships with schools through multi-series PD sessions, classroom visits and field trips (2 days per week)
    • Develop and implement educator in-services, upon request, related to The Field Museum content and resources
  • Other (10%)
    • Maintain working knowledge of relevant research and professional literature
    • Participate in and present at professional conferences
    • Support revision and publication of annual School Programs catalog as needed
    • Support planning and implementation of Educator Open House and Field Ambassador program as needed
    • Track expenses and revenue for assigned programs and projects
    • Support grant proposal writing and reporting as needed
Qualifications


  • Educational background in life science, physical science, and/or anthropology
  • Knowledge of research in informal education, curriculum and instruction, teacher education, and/or science/social science education
  • Experience developing and writing PreK-12 curriculum
  • Previous classroom experience
  • Comfortable leading and collaborating with diverse student and teacher groups
  • Ability to work independently and with attention to details
  • Experience with web-based systems and data entry
  • Strong organizational skills
