POSITION SUMMARY:
Coordinates public education programs and events for visitors of all ages
and stages of experience at the High Museum of Art.

WORK SCHEDULE:
·         Mondays ­ Fridays, 9:00 a.m. ­ 5:00 p.m.
·         Weekends and evenings as necessary to fulfill public program
offerings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
·        Works with the Head of Public Programs and Community Engagement to
develop an annual slate of creative, engaging public education programs
inspired
by the High¹s permanent collections and special exhibitions.
·        Coordinates and implements program offerings for visitors of all
ages and stages,
for example: lectures, courses, films, symposia, family days, studio
programs, community days, opening day events; musical, dance, and
theatrical performances.
·        Collaborates with education department members and other museum
departments
(especially Membership and PR/Marketing) to develop and promote public
programs.
·        Coordinates all aspects of program logistics to include scheduling,
registration,
contracting, ordering materials and supplies, and program evaluation.
·        Communicates with artists, speakers and contractors regarding
facilitating contracts, travel arrangements, payment, and billing.
·        Works cross departmentally with AV tech, Visitor Services,
Housekeeping,
Security, Special Events, and other support staff to produce large
audience driver programs.
·        Develops and edits program descriptions and visitor friendly copy
for
e-newsletter, flyers, website, membership magazine and other media.
·        Uses and monitors program budget to achieve an efficient use of
resources.
·        Participates in planning meetings; learns about exhibitions and
special projects that will aid in program development.
·        Researches program themes, speakers, performers, and formats and
keeps informed
about other programs locally and in other museums.
·        Teaches and participates in workshops, gallery teaching, and
courses, as needed.
·        Works with Family Programs Assistant to coordinate program
volunteers for public programs.
·        Researches and develops community artist contacts and maintains
current network of relevant artists (storytellers, musicians, theater,
etc.).
·        Develops contacts with a wide range of community and volunteer
organizations to support community collaboration.

Qualifications:
To

Education and Experience:
·        BA in studio art/art education/art history or humanities and 3 ­ 5
years
of museum experience with increasing responsibility desired.
·        MA in museum education/studio art/art education/museum studies/art
history preferred.
·        Strong event production experience. Proven track record with
managing large scale events.
·        Experience developing and implementing public programs within a
museum context.
·        Experience planning large audience driver programs and events.

Skills and Abilities:
·         Familiarity with current audience research and publications on
public programs in museum desirable.
·         Creative thinker with outstanding teaching skills and classroom
management abilities.
·         Ability to network, identify and cultivate program
partners/resources in the community.
·         Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, accuracy,
and ability to work independently and with a variety of people.
·         Must be a team player with an ability to work with a variety of
contractors, artists, and staff.
·         Professional demeanor, polished presentation and public speaking
skills.
·         Strong communication and interpersonal skills required for working
with volunteers and the general public.
·         Diplomatic leadership skills and ability to coordinate and
negotiate with various departments within the Museum.
·         Excellent writing skills.

Computer Skills:
·         Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and
scheduling software.

Mathematical Skills:
·         Ability to assemble and to evaluate budgets and accounting
statements.

Reasoning Ability:
·         Ability to assess and evaluate information as to its validity and
appropriateness.
·         Ability to organize and express information in clear, logical
sequence.
