POSITION SUMMARY:

The Coordinator of Youth and Community Programs coordinates public education experiences, programs, workshops, and events geared towards engaging and serving youth audiences with the High Museum of Art.  We facilitate a rich menu of after-school and weekend programs that inspire young people to build their art skills, meet local artists, participate in art exhibitions, learn about the behind-the-scenes of the museum, and meet fellow youth interested in the arts.

 

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm with evenings and weekends as needed.

 

Essential Duties And Responsibilities include the following:

  • Works with the Head of Public Programs and Community Engagement to develop an annual slate of creative, engaging public education programs for youth audiences inspired by the High’s permanent collections and special exhibitions.
  • Coordinates the planning and implementation of public programs and events for teens, for example: teen nights; youth art exhibitions; art labs and classes; artist demonstrations; and musical, dance, and theatrical performances.
  • Develops and implements studio classes related to the High’s permanent collection and special exhibitions for youth afterschool and weekend drop-in workshops, and registration based studio programs.
  • Creatively produces large scale events and festivals featuring activities, performances, and workshops drawn from content in the High’s permanent collection and special exhibitions.
  • Oversees, with the Head of Public Programs and Community Engagement, all contractual art teachers in the museum studios, supply inventory and ordering, and is a contact person for registration-based studio classes, workshops.
  • Communicates and coordinates honoraria contracts, travel arrangements, and billing as related to public programs.
  • Researches and develops community artist contacts and maintains current network of relevant artists and performers (artists, musicians, theater, etc.).
  • Develop strong relationships with area organizations serving youth, community artists, and teachers and administrators as related to recruitment, promotion, and messaging outreach.
  • Participates in planning meetings; learns about exhibitions and special projects that inform program development.
  • Researches program themes, artists and performers, program formats and keeps informed about other programs locally and in other museums.
  • Develops and edits program copy for newsletter, flyers and other media as required.
  • Works cross departmentally with AV tech, Visitor Services, Housekeeping, Security, Special Events, and other support staff to produce large driver audience programs.
  • Works with Coordinator of Docent Volunteer Educators to secure volunteers for programs as needed.
