Description
General Description:
The Collections Management Assistant is responsible for the general cleanliness of the fine and decorative arts in the Ameircan Wing period rooms and galleries.The Collections Management Assistant works in close collaboration with departmental Technician(s) and supplements the level of housekeeping provided by the Museum’s custodial staff.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
•General collections upkeep to museum/conservation standards including dusting/vacuuming works of art and period furniture displayed in period rooms and in the galleries
•Upkeep of cleanliness in period rooms and galleries including cleaning, dusting, and vacuuming of platforms, floors, mouldings,or barriers in proximity to art; supplemental cleaning of cases and vitrines between normal custodial maintenance
•Sporadic assistance, as assigned, with dusting of art in cases and storage
•Reports any observed damage or vandalism in galleries
•Maintaining a department handbook/guide for period room maintenance and scheduled cleaning program
•Other related duties

Requirements and Qualifications:
Experience and Skills:
•Thoughtful, careful, energetic worker with ability to work independently
•Experience working with three-dimensional works of art preferred
•Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Photoshop preferred
•Knowledge of The Museum System (TMS) or comparable collections database systems required

Knowledge and Education:
•Art handling, conservation, or museum studies background desirable
•BA degree required
