One year Gallery Director position. The Director of the University Art Galleries at the University of South Dakota will be responsible for organization, management, and installation of exhibitions supporting educational goals in multiple art galleries on the university campus and work in tandem with Art Department goals. Duties include: develop and promote exhibition and educational projects for the University Art Galleries (UAG), which includes the John A. Day Gallery, the Oscar Howe Gallery, 110 Gallery and other galleries/displays on campus; oversee the maintenance of gallery equipment and premises; supervise and mentor studentworkers; develop and promote awareness of the UAG through a variety of print and public presentations; monitor the gallery budget and allocate resources; continue to build upon the foundations of the UAG collections and ensure that collections are safely collected, conserved and displayed; serve as chair of the University Art Gallery Committee; other duties as assigned. The GalleryDirector reports to the dean of the college. Appointment begins July 2014. 

We are seeking an energetic and detail oriented candidate with strong communication skills. The candidate should have a terminal degree in the arts or in a field appropriate to the position such as Museum Studies, Art History, or Arts Management or an MA or MFA in Art. Experience in gallery exhibition isrequired. Gallery administration experience preferred. An equivalent combination education and experience may be considered.
