The Position
The School-Age Learning Educator is responsible for the delivery of Summer Club programming, including onsite programs and offsite outreach, under the supervision of the Project Manager (Mgr of School-Age Learning) and the Director of the Child Development & Community Engagement team.  This includes programs scheduled for both Summer 2014 and Summer 2015 as well as all contributing to program development, coordinating with school and community partners, and providing support in the intervening year.  This program will serve as a key liaison among all the partners, and coordinate with BCM educators and visitor services.

 

The Summer Club  is a collaboration with the BELL (Building Educated Leaders for Life) and the Boston Public Schools OELL (Office of English Language Learners) to design and implement family learning activities in July and August to promote school success through informal learning at BCM.  Programs will be designed, delivered, evaluated, revised and improved in the 2014 and 2015 summers.   Participants in the program will include students enrolled in BELL Summer School and their families.  Special emphasis will be placed on developing tools and resources for parents that will equip them to support their children’s learning.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Working with the Project Manager, develop and present innovative summer programming designed specifically for Summer Club participants and their families
  • In collaboration with the Project Manager, develop and present innovative programs for school-aged children through workshops and school programs
  • Oversee administration of School-Age workshops offered during the summer, including management of program calendar, promotion of upcoming programs, and logistical program needs
  • Work closely with the Visitor Services department to deliver a memorable, VIP, 5-star family night experience for Summer Club participants
  • Coordinate with other Educators and VEAs in delivery of programs and lead educational Friday night summer programs for students and teachers focusing on school success that support accepted learning standards.
  • Work closely with Project Manager and Group Visits Coordinator to network with our four Summer Club partner schools and their associated community groups and family networks.
  • Contribute creative ideas and strategies to deliver an all-new family visit product for school-age learners and their families
  • Assist in evaluation of family and school-age programming and review of outcomes
  • Collect data on family attendance, participation, etc. as appropriate throughout summers and school year
  • Interface with project partners at BELL and BPS OELL as appropriate and necessary
  • This is a 1 year position with a regular schedule of Monday-Thursday, 9am-5pm and Friday 1pm-9pm.
Qualifications:
Qualifications

  • College degree with area of study in education, museum studies, or related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with children ages 5 – 12 and an understanding of school-age children’s emotional, intellectual, and social development.
  • Experience and comfort working with adults from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with multicultural, intergenerational audiences, in an energetic, friendly, outgoing, and professional manner.
  • Fluency in a second language is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Boston communities a plus, especially the Boston immigrant community.
  • Experience in working on a grant-funded program is preferred.
