Position: Manager of Family & Youth Programs
Status: Full Time, Salaried, Exempt, Benefit Eligible
Hours: 40 hours per week – weekdays, with Sunday and occasional evenings hours as needed to accommodate programs
Reports to: Deputy Director for Learning & Engagement
Supervises: Camp instructors, interns, family program staff, volunteers
Position Summary:
This position is responsible for creating participatory programming where youth and families are meaningfully and collaboratively engaged in learning and enjoyment of the Sculpture Park and Museum. The Manager of Family and Youth Programs develops, coordinates, and facilitates guided and self-guided programs and events targeted to families and youth. The position takes the primary lead on the development, structuring, hiring, and management of school vacation programs and the hive summer camp. The position works in collaboration with Learning and Engagement staff, Visitor Services, and educational partners to facilitate programs and works collaboratively with all museum staff to develop an overall strategy and plan to engage museum audiences.
Develops, manages, and facilitates:
– Family programs:
o ARTfull Play
o ARTfull Explorations
o MAKEmobile
o Play in the Park
– the hive summer camp working with the Deputy Director for Learning and Engagement
– February and April vacation programming
– Family Activity Kits
– Lincoln Nursery School project and teacher support
Collaborate with L&E staff, as needed, on:
– Intergenerational public programs
– Parent programs
– Gallery interpretives:
o Interactive Family Guides
o The Square
o Process Gallery
o Art ExperienCenter (future pending)
o New exhibition-inspired initiatives
– Museum Guide family training
– Overall plan for audience engagement in relation to institutional and departmental objectives

Work with Museum Departments accordingly:
– Marketing – to promote family programs and the hive
– Visitor Services – to support visitor experiences and accessibility
– Curatorial – to develop L&E programming in relation to the art on view
– Membership – to support family Member events
– Attend departmental, interdepartmental, board committee, and working group meetings
– Family program assistants
– The hive summer camp instructors and junior instructors
– Museum Guides supporting family programs
– Family and youth interns and volunteers
Other responsibilities:
– Coordinate and order office and art supplies
– Other duties as assigned
BA/BS degree; Masters in Museum Education, Early Childhood Education, Art Education, or equivalent experience
– A minimum of 3 years of museum education experience
– Experience working with children
– Experience developing materials-based family programs
– Experience managing a 50-participant program
– Working knowledge of image and design software (primarily Photoshop and InDesign)
– Must be able to lift 25 pounds and access deCordova’s thirty acres of hilly outdoor terrain and indoor facilities.
– Strong organizational abilities with extreme attention to detail
– Ability to prioritize and to work both collaboratively and independently
– Demonstrated contract staff and volunteer management experience
– Effective communicator and interpersonal skills
