Manage the image rights requests for all works of art in the Museum’s care including those in the permanent collection, those on loan, and those being used in publications. Maintain Museum’s existing analog image files and the distribution of digital images. Schedule and supervise photography of works of art and their installations.

Duties, Work Performed:

Image Rights

-Manage all image reproduction requests (both film and digital) from beginning to end including correspondence, fee collection, credit line usage, and image delivery.

-Serve as Museum’s resource for copyright questions and policies. Manage all correspondence and files pertaining to approved credit lines and copyright status and usage.

-Process and track invoices and payments for all image request and services.

-On behalf of the Museum, request permission from copyright holders to reproduce images in Museum publications, printed materials, and the Museum’s website.

-Monitor and ensure proper credit line usage.

Image Management

-Maintain Museum’s existing analog image files, including negatives, transparencies, and prints.

-Work with IT to establish best practice for cataloging, maintaining, and accessing the Museum’s digital image files.

-Oversee the distribution of digital images to outside parties.

-Uphold quality control standards for image inventory and reproductions made from these Images.

Photography

-Coordinate collection and exhibition photography needs with registration staff and requesting departments; assist in setting priorities for collections photography.

-Schedule and supervise contract photographers for object photography and installation photography, and for outside clients as needed. Assist in approving quality of images delivered.

-Maintain Photo Studio schedule, equipment and supplies.

-Perform other related duties as assigned by the Registrar.

Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required, experience in Museum setting preferred. Must have knowledge of copyright rules and policies, and image license experience. Familiarity with digital and analog image formats, technology and photography is critical. Must have strong organizational skills and attention for details.
