The Director, Alabama Museum of Natural History (AMNH) is responsible for the operations of the museum to include staffing, financial management, public relations, and the planning and implementation of temporary and permanent exhibits and public programs. As one of the oldest university museums in the U.S., the Alabama Museum of Natural History strives to be a national leader among museums at institutions of higher education. The AMNH is dedicated to facilitating collections-based research in the natural sciences by faculty and students and presenting the state’s natural history, including its extraordinary biodiversity as demonstrated in the fossil record, to the UA community and the general public through quality educational programs and state-of-the-art exhibits. Job Requirements
Required minimum qualifications: Master’s degree in museum studies, biology, geology, anthropology, natural science, education, or other relevant field and at least two (2) years experience working in a museum or similar educational setting, or other relevant experience; OR Ph.D. in biology, geology, anthropology, natural science, education, or other relevant field and at least one (1) year experience working in a museum or similar educational setting, or other relevant experience.

Skills and knowledge: Ability to work independently and as a team. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to work with a diverse population and excellent interpersonal skills. Knowledge of personal computers and standard software applications. Ability to understand basic budgeting and accounting procedures.

Preferred: Experience working at a museum, historic site or environmental organization. Experience in the development and implementation of exhibits and public programming in a museum setting. Record of publication in peer-reviewed journals. Experience in writing and submitting grant proposals. Supervisory experience.
