Established in 1991, Intuit is the only nonprofit organization in the United States that is committed to exclusively presenting self-taught and outsider art. Intuit achieves its mission through world class exhibitions; stimulating and provocative educational programming; a Permanent Collection with holdings of more than 1,100 works of art; the Henry Darger Room Collection; and the Robert A. Roth Study Center, a non-circulating collection of books, monographs and periodicals with a primary focus in the fields of outsider and contemporary self-taught art.

Intuit is grounded in the belief that the instinct to create is universal and the arts must embrace, celebrate, and be accessible to all, regardless of education level or socio-economic status.

The Executive Director is responsible for providing overall leadership, management of day-to-day activities, fundraising, and community relations. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the selected candidate will provide direction for all organizational affairs in these major areas:

LEADERSHIP

Create a truly networked organization with national and international reach that provides a platform for effective communication with and between members and other art institutions;

Rebrand the organization and initiate strategies with the current vision for the future;

Be informed about, and responsive to, the diverse and changing needs of current members, while also anticipating future need, and those of potential members; and

Lead the expansion of Intuit as America’s leader and voice for self-taught, non-traditional folk and outsider art. ? ??

MANAGEMENT

Guide the development, preparation administration of the budget;

Provide leadership, direction and motivation to the staff, hire, mentor and train where needed and create a cohesive team; and

Develop and present to the Board tactical operating and financial plans in line with business and strategic plans.

FUNDRAISING

Build and implement a sustainable revenue model that supports the ambitions of the strategic plan, while offering a strong value proposition to the membership base;

Grow the donor base, including corporate sponsorships and other strategic partnerships;

Inspire donors to invest resources in Intuit and raising funds to allow the organization to fulfill its mission and meet its strategic goals;

EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS

Assure that Intuit and its mission, programs, and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders and beyond; and

Serve as an expert spokesperson and advocate on the role of Intuit to issues important to the arts sector.

BOARD RELATIONS

Provide leadership to, and partnering with, the Board on the evolution and implementation of the strategic plan including any refinements;

Provide the Board with the information it needs to fulfill its governance responsibilities;

Work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure that these activities are developed and led in accordance with goals, objectives and policies established by the Board of Directors.

Job Requirements
The Successful Candidate will have demonstrated experience in the following areas:

Knowledge of the U.S. nonprofit sector and/or experience as an executive or board member;

Experience working with a Board of Directors;

Experience leading an organization through a time of transformational change in a competitive environment;

Experience managing and aligning staff, operations and finances to set and meet identified strategic objectives;

Strong communications skills;

Experience developing a new business model; and

Proven fundraising abilities.
