Reporting to the Director of School & Teacher Program, the Education Coordinator develops, implements, and evaluates museum education programs, interpretive materials and resources related to exhibitions and the permanent art collection for teacher audiences.
Some duties include: coordinates the Art + Film Teacher Institutes, Evenings for Educators, the teacher professional development component of LACMA On-site: Art Programs with the Community, and other teacher program offerings; conceives, organizes, and implements two to three, three-day Art + Film Teacher Institutes per year that emphasize inter-disciplinary teaching approaches using works of art and technology; develops and writes curriculum materials, conceives hands-on projects and in-gallery activities, and identifies speakers for four Evenings for Educators programs per year; cultivates, strengthens and sustains partnerships with the LACMA On-site school teachers, serves as a resource for arts integration, and leads high quality professional development and training; develops and monitors budgets for all teacher programs and materials; evaluates teacher programs, maintains statistical information, and documents compelling evidence to demonstrate impact; works with Director of School & Teacher Programs to propose new teacher offerings, both digital and face-to-face, that reflect current priorities within schools and the museum; works with Development staff to write proposals and identify potential funding streams.
The qualified candidate will have a master’s degree in Art History or Art Education, and at least two years of experience developing programs and writing standards-aligned curricular materials for teachers, selecting and supervising teaching artists, monitoring budgets over at least $30,000, as well as working with school teachers, administrators, and other arts advocates. Knowledge of the latest educational reform efforts within public schools is required. This position requires the flexibility to work weekends and some evenings.
