Assist the Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art in the preparation of exhibitions, installations and publications; act as managing in-house curator of exhibitions borrowed from other institutions; work with contemporary artists on commissioned projects; research works of art in permanent collection for display; and assist in developing acquisition strategy for modern and contemporary art.

Assist the curator in the organization of exhibitions and the reinstallation of the permanent collection from inception to installation including selection of objects, research, writing and interpretation. Act as in-house curator for exhibitions borrowed from other institutions. Work with contemporary artists to help manage commissioned projects. Write, edit, and assist in the production of Museum publications and exhibition related materials including wall texts and extended object labels. Participate in programs related to the Blanton’s collection or exhibitions including gallery tours and docent training. Serve as a liaison with faculty, outside researchers and organizations, and with other departments within the museum. Keep abreast of current activity in the area of departmental interest through gallery and museum visits, publications, etc. Assist with evaluation of possible acquisitions and loan requests. Assist in training and overseeing museum interns and fellows.

Job Requirements
Master’s degree in art history or related field with specialization in contemporary or modern art with two years experience or Bachelor’s degree with four years experience. Advanced knowledge of research methods with a minimum of two years museum curatorial experience. Knowledge of standard museum and preservation practices. Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment; highly developed organizational and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of contemporary photography, sound art, or other time-based media preferred. Experience with collection management systems preferred. Master’s degree and five years museum curatorial experience.
