About this Organization:
Mount Auburn Cemetery, a National Historic Landmark, was founded in 1831 as America’s first landscaped cemetery, and it became the inspiration for our nation’s public parks. Today the Cemetery is a world-renowned place of great beauty and an active cemetery with an arboretum of over 6,000 trees and an incomparable collection of 19th, 20th and 21st century funerary monuments. Its grounds are a favorite place for the Boston community to enjoy nature. Mount Auburn is one of the best birding spots in Massachusetts, and people also come from far and wide to study our national heritage by visiting the graves of noted Americans and studying the great variety of monuments and historic buildings.
