Job Summary
Designs, implements, and manages a full range of communications for The Wolfsonian museum and research center, including communications strategies and activities, including external and internal communications, direct marketing, channel marketing activities, social media initiatives, and online communities.

Understands and communicates institutional mission, values, and content to both general and target markets to drive attendance, stimulate revenue, and diversify audiences and customer/client base. Ensure that messages are clear, compelling, consistent, and effective.
Copywrites, copyedits, fact-checks, proofreads, and participates actively in the development, production, and delivery of promotional and educational materials as part of a collaborative staff that includes the marketing and design teams. Materials include flyers, brochures, gallery guides, events calendars, invitations, signage, and content for The Wolfsonian’s website, ticketing site, e-blasts, radio spots, and social media, including posts for the institution’s blogs. Works in collaboration with the Division of External Relations on all collateral development, advertising and promotion.
Generates media coverage of The Wolfsonian by cultivating business relationships with the media and monitoring trends in arts/culture, hospitality, and retail journalism. Pitch stories to appear in print, electronic, and online media.
Develops awareness of the Museum’s brand, communicates with the Museum’s stakeholders and the general public, cultivates relationships with bloggers and other media, generates inbound traffic, manages online advertising and drives revenue via online sales.
Manages and creates/executes content for all branded social media campaigns and channels, including (but not limited to) facebook, twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and YouTube. Edits, coordinates, and sends monthly member e-newsletters (Wolfsonian e-Propaganda), as well as weekly calendar reminders, monthly e-calendars, and other related e-flyers.
Formulates and/or helps to monitor editorial, design, production, printing, and mailing schedules for all materials.
Collaborates closely with The Wolfsonian team, in managing, monitoring, and evolving the guidelines for The Wolfsonian house style and key messages of the institution across all materials, including social media and ticketing site.
Writes/edits, and distributes press releases, media advisories, images, and fact sheets. Also oversee archiving of media clippings and maintain database of media contacts.
Organizes media previews and visits, including event flow, attendance, and spokesperson talking points.
Assists in photography and videography shoots as needed; help to maintain digital asset database.
Performs all duties in accordance with The Wolfsonian’s established mission and values.
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in an academic discipline associated with museum studies (History, Art History, American Studies, Museum Education or related field) and two years of related work experience; or a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in in an academic discipline associated with museum studies (History, Art History, American Studies, Museum Education or related field) and four years of related work experience.

Desired Qualifications:

Graduate degree in English, history, art history, marketing, or mass communications, and a minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an account executive, publicist, editor, writer, or related position. A keen appreciation and understanding of The Wolfsonian’s mission and philosophy.
Exceptional skills, track record, and passionate interest in performing editorial functions, including copywriting, copyediting, fact-checking, giving and receiving editorial feedback, and proofreading, preferably in an arts communications and marketing setting.
Prior experience in securing editorial coverage. Strong working knowledge of media relations practices in the promotion of the visual, literary, and/or performing arts and a strong familiarity with local and regional arts/culture media. Experience in retail and hospitality publicity a plus.
Demonstrated organizational skills to plan media and other events.
Strong familiarity with Chicago-style standard, and superior ability to manage The Wolfsonian’s house style for print, electronic, web, social media, and ticketing site communications. Superb attention to grammar, spelling, diction, word usage, typographic treatment, and punctuation.
Working knowledge and experience with social networking platforms: e.g. Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube and ability to maintain regular communication via social media, including understanding proper messaging formats. techniques and strategies unique to each social media platform.
Proven success in managing a fast-changing and varied workload and completing both simple and high-profile projects on time and within budget. Ability to meet and drive deadlines, prioritize projects, and problem-solve independently with sound judgment.
Excellent interpersonal skills, with a sincere commitment to developing productive relationships, both within and beyond the institution. Ability to thrive in in a busy, multi-sensory, and highly collaborative work environment.
Positive, energetic, cooperative, can-do attitude. Self-starter approach to completing projects, as well as improving processes and procedures.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience using a content management system, and/or MailChimp, and Adobe Creative Suite a plus.

$45,000 – $55,000
