The Executive Director’s (ED) Position uses the organizations mission and policies established by the Board of Directors as guide for leadership of the Michigan State Trust for Railway Preservation, (dba) the Steam Railroading Institute. The ED represents the museum in all affairs. The Steam Railroading Institute houses the steam locomotive used by Warner Brothers Productions as the image and sound in the movie The Polar Express. The ED establishes the annual budget, accounts for all funding in compliance with auditing policy and procedures and presents reports of financial and daily operation to the Board of Directors and Executive Committees. This position is responsible for but not limited to, Fiscal Management, Development, Marketing and Community Relations, Human Resources, Exhibition, Education and Public Programs, Train Excursions, Facility, Operations and Administration.

Job Requirements
Requirements for this position include but not limited to, a proven expertise in high level fund development, excellent verbal and written communications skills, public speaking skills and a knowledge of computer and electronics media, including Microsoft Office, Past Perfect, Constant Contact and Social Media. A knowledge of advertising and media buys and inclusions.

A minimum five years experience of management as an Executive Director or senior level staff in a cultural institution. A minimum of five years experience in fundraising, finance, marketing and/or program development. A proven record of successful fundrising. A very innovative thinker with vision and leadership skills.
