Overall Responsibilities: Reporting to the Executive Director, the Education Associate will develop, implement and evaluate education and outreach programs for children, adults and scholars that advance The Amistad Center’s mission and vision.

Duties:
Working collaboratively with Amistad Center staff, volunteers and consultants and appropriate organizational partners, develop, implement and evaluate high and low tech in-gallery activities, public programs and materials that amplify exhibition themes, engage target audiences and ensure high quality visitor learning experiences.
Plan and coordinate all aspects of public programs that mark major milestones relevant to the Black experience in America including Juneteenth Family Day, Martin Luther King Day, Black History Month and other important and timely topics and occasions.
Serve as primary adult advisor for The Amistad Center’s Teen Advisory Group providing guidance and assistance with their activities to engage their peers and build team members’ knowledge of our organization and the art and culture of people of African descent.
Engage and serve virtual visitors with interactivities and materials via The Amistad Center’s website.
Coordinate the marketing and installation of two traveling educational displays to bring the fine art experience to non-museum environments.
Perform additional duties in support of The Amistad Center’s mission and goals to include: building relationships with area arts, human service and educational institutions; responding to requests for presentations, tabling, and exhibition tours; and, contributing to grant writing and reporting related to educational programs.

Job Requirements
Education Requirement
BA in museum studies, African American studies, art history or related fields required. MA strongly preferred.

Experience & Skills
Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a museum educator; strong knowledge of museum interpretive strategies and the art and culture of people of African descent; MS office skills; excellent communications and interpersonal skills.

Other Requirements
Must be able to work as an integral part of a small team and multi-task in a fast-paced innovative environment.
