The Curatorial Assistant provides critical support on all curatorial matters to the Assistant Director for Curatorial Affairs, Dayton Director, and Malloy Curator.  This includes, among other responsibilities, drafting exhibition labels, text for catalogs, brochures, and the website, assisting with correspondence, scheduling, and managing photography for various projects, and accompanying curators on studio visits.

This position will also work on all aspects of catalog production including researching and editing material from a variety of sources, obtaining proper publishing rights and keeping production of catalogs on schedule.

The CA works with the Registrarial Department to promote and facilitate the use of the museum collections as a teaching resource for Skidmore faculty and students and the greater Saratoga community.   This position also assists with the scheduling and supervision of the print room and supervises approximately 4 work study students each semester and assists with all aspects of students’ research and curatorial projects.

The Curatorial Assistant may also propose exhibitions and would follow through on all aspects of the process from initial idea through final realization of the project.

The person in this role represents the museum to various groups on campus and in the community, and works with other museum staff to provide the Gallery Monitors with information on all shows before they open to the public.

Minimum qualification: Master’s Degree in Art, Art History or Museum Studies

Preferred qualification: Focus in contemporary art and curatorial studies along with 2+ years of work experience.  Excellent computer skills, research, writing and editing experience needed.  Strong attention to detail is a must.  Experience installing and designing exhibitions and working with living artists also helpful.
