Are you looking for something a little bit different?  Pacific Science Center seeks an Exhibit Technician to enhance our guests’ experience by ensuring exhibits are safe and well maintained.  The Exhibit Technician works within the Exhibits & Life Sciences Division to install, repair, maintain and upgrade exhibits.  Whether you are repairing dinosaurs, fixing robots, correcting computer code or helping install our latest travelling exhibit, every day is different at Pacific Science Center.

This position involves being a repair-detective by maintaining and repairing dated exhibits with and without documentation, often in public areas; Some tasks may be unique and non-repetitive in nature requiring judgment, creativity, initiative and common sense to resolve; Some tasks may be repetitive in nature; High stress work environment with shifting priorities and deadlines.  The long term schedule is Tuesday through Saturday however the Exhibit Technician may need to be available Saturdays, Sundays, early mornings and some late evenings during busy times.

Our Exhibit Technician must be creative, resourceful, thorough, positive, and above all else – dependable.  The ideal candidate will have an Associate degree plus two years of experience in a technical field or equivalent work experience; valid Washington State Driver’s License; ability to diagnose and repair complex systems involving electronic, mechanical and digital components; ability to fabricate with a wide variety of materials (wood, plastic, metal, etc.); active independent learner that stays current with new technologies and techniques; excellent follow through, work ethic and attention to detail; ability to collaborate and problem solve as part of a group and independently; well organized and able to maintain and develop clear and accurate records; comfortable using computers and mobile computing devices in daily work; strong communication skills verbally and in writing with technical and non-technical audiences; smiling team player; solution and service oriented, positive attitude, safety consciousness required.

Desired Candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree and four or more years of experience in a technical field; experience building, programming and repairing electronics; advanced skills in at least one of the following areas: carpentry, machining, metal work, theater style lighting, rigging, or computer programming preferred.  Preferred candidates have experience with show control systems (AMX, DMX, Crestron); experience in a museum setting or technical theater background; programming experience, especially Linux, Arduino and mobile computing platforms desirable.
