The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum is currently considering applicants for the position of Vice President of Technology.  The Vice President of Technology reports to the President and CEO and is responsible for creating and guiding the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s institution-wide technology strategy and vision, as well as developing, implementing, measuring and maintaining digital and technological systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:                       

  1. Prioritizes and leads all information technology activities of the Museum and Library & Archives.  This includes all website platforms, visitor-centric technology (both in the physical museum and online) and back-end tools that will drive better decision-making and increased efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Develops long-term and short-term technology strategy and vision.
  • Sets IT organizational strategy in collaboration with the senior management team. Determines the role of IT within the organization.
  • Researches, recommends, and implements products, systems and techniques that improve data-driven decision-making capabilities, and advance organizational strategic priorities.
  • Develops plans to capitalize on cutting-edge museum technologies, which may include interactive exhibit elements, mobile commerce, paperless ticketing, visitor-generated content platforms, and on-site visitor data capture systems.
  • Responsible for the design, development and implementation of information systems, software applications, and IT support and infrastructure systems.
  • Researches and implements new ways in which information and technology assets can be leveraged to expand and improve museum services, increase revenue and optimize the efficiency of systems and processes at the museum.
  • Directs and manages plans and schedules, all policies and programs for the organization’s data processing, network communications, business operations, computer services and information management functions.
  • Oversees the continued development and functionality of the Museum and Library & Archives website platforms.  Will work with those creating digital content in education, exhibits and marketing.
  • Recommends strategies and approaches to maximize exposure on social media platforms.
  1. Takes a lead role in the development and management of digital information systems throughout the museum; the development of specialized applications (e.g., for managing workflows, generating reports, and providing data for interpretive programs) to support a broad range of informational, administrative, marketing, and educational functions.
  • Oversees current museum technologies including data and voice networking, wifi, imaging, email, special software and applications, workstations, printers and other equipment. Identifies and resolves any problems in these areas and makes recommendations for greater efficiency.
  • Ensures that the museum’s information technology infrastructure supports its computing and data processing needs. Oversees the management of IT-related risk prevention, including information security and data privacy.
  • Ensures that the required hardware, software, network services, and capital investments throughout the museum are cost-effective and sufficient to meet institutional needs.
  • Advises on the technical architecture, standards, and tools required to manage the museum’s digital assets.
  • Develops and oversees an institutional approach to digital asset production, management, and access. Possesses primary accountability for leveraging the museum’s digital assets, including the strategy, development, management, integration, and effective creation and utilization of a comprehensive content management system.
  1. Builds and leverages a wide network of external contacts and partnerships to advise and assist the Museum. Works with President and CEO and VP of Development to identify and cultivate donors who will increase institutional capacity to support technology.
  1. Oversees the implementation of a technology strategy and leads the Museum’s digital initiatives.  Determines future trends, ensures effective use of resources, and maximizes impact through the use of integrated digital information systems.
  • Responsible for strategic planning and assessments, vendor analysis, acceptance and management Project/Process Management, Measurement and Data Analysis, User Experience, Web Assessment and Implementation, RFP/SOW Creation, Software Upgrades/Conversions, Social Media Analytic Strategies, Writing and Presenting.
  1. Oversees the activities of the Technology Division.
  • Manages the day to day operations of the IT department, including recruiting, hiring, training and supervising staff to achieve strategic goals.
  • Provide staff with feedback and development opportunities that allow them to contribute to organizational goals and personal growth.
  • Works collaboratively with other departments.
  • Crafts and oversees department budget.
  • Devises and manages the implementation of the division strategic plan.
  1. Travels off-site and/or out of state when required.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in software engineering, computer science, information systems or related field required. A Master’s Degree in related field or business preferred.
  • A minimum of ten years of work experience leading IT functions including architecture, systems and database administration and proven ability to lead and effectively manage staff.
