The Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) is currently seeking a Full Time Marketing Manager (Job ACE.30) to support the Director, Communications and Audience Development in the organization’s Audience and Civic Engagement Center.  CLOSING DATE: November 1, 2014

OMCA is one of the Bay Area’s leading cultural institutions and the only museum devoted to the art, history, and natural sciences of the state. OMCA recently completed a $62.2 million capital campaign for the Museum’s first-ever renovation and is currently undertaking a significant organizational transformation. POSITION SUMMARY

The Marketing Manager strategizes and implements marketing and advertising plans; and develops strategic partnerships to help drive attendance and increase revenue at the Oakland Museum of California.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

INSTITUTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Marketing Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage marketing budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility while maximizing advertising spending opportunities
  • Manage and direct advertising and marketing campaigns, including creative conceptualizing and art directing in partnership with the Creative Production Center design department
  • Collaborate and assist in procuring corporate sponsorships and community partnerships, ensuring all marketing and communications benefits are fulfilled
  • Lead and assist in audience development research studies (i.e., exhibition titling, audience and market surveys), interpreting and implementing strategies based on findings
  • Assist in the development of best practices for social media reporting, sponsorship and partnership processes, and departmental reporting
  • Assist in the cross-center development content and provide leadership of cross-center content team

Media

  • Research, negotiate, and procure relevant media and community partnerships to support OMCA initiatives
  • Plan and purchase annual media buy, including negotiating contracts
  • Oversee all social media channels, including content strategy support and insuring institutional, marketing, and communications goals are met
  • Assess, research, direct recommendations for Social Media improvements to insure alignment with institutional goals and overall effectiveness; lead staff and contractors in this work

Job Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A combination of experience and education that demonstrates possession of the necessary knowledge and abilities for this position is required as noted:

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent required
  • B.A. degree in relevant field such as Marketing, Journalism, English, or related field preferred
  • 4-6 years of related experience required

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in leadership, strategic communications, and marketing planning
  • Public and media relations experience
  • Proficiency in media buying strategy, online, social media, and  new technology marketing
  • Significant experience with project management techniques
  • Proven public speaking abilities
  • Business-to-Business relationship cultivation experience
  • Proficiency in computer systems, specifically MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently exposed to the following:

  • Noise, such as groups of people working in enclosed areas

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
