CEO Resources has been retained to recruit a Vice President for Advancement for the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia, PA.  The Museum of the American Revolution (formerly The American Revolution Center) is a 501C (3) non-profit organization that is building a national museum in Philadelphia to commemorate the entire story of the American Revolution and its ongoing legacy in the nation and around the world. Construction of the Museum began in the summer of 2014 and is scheduled for completion in late 2016.  To date, $115 million has been committed.

The Museum is now seeking a Vice President for Advancement to report to and partner with the President/CEO. The VP for Advancement will also work closely with the leadership team and Board of Directors, to leverage and support them as they take on an active fundraising role in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting high-net worth individuals, private foundations and corporations to support this capital campaign in achieving its fundraising goals.  As a key member of the leadership team and an active participant in making strategic decisions, this newly created position will have primary responsibility for all aspects of fundraising to increase the Museum’s capabilities, enabling it to complete its goals and secure the philanthropic support for the Museum’s opening and long term success.

Based in Philadelphia, PA, this position offers an opportunity to build a department that will develop and grow ongoing donor and membership support for the Museum, augmented by existing strategic development consulting and direct marketing resources, to achieve its fundraising goals. The compensation package is competitive and is commensurate with the candidate’s experience.

Job Requirements

  • A strategic, hands-on and energetic leader with approximately 10 years of fundraising experience either for museums, cultural, or other related institutions (preferably history-related), with at least 3 years of management experience within an institution that annually raises $1million+;
  • Demonstrated leadership in capital campaign fundraising, specifically success  in raising $5 million or more through a fundraising effort targeted to sophisticated high-wealth donors, private foundations and corporations;
  • Experience establishing a development department and/or building a new organization which required initiating or improving development systems and processes;
  • Excellent communication skills including verbal, written and presentation skills with the ability to analyze and present information in a clear, concise form;
  • Experienced in managing database technology and staff with such donor programs as eTapestry, Razors Edge or other donor management programs;
  • Ability to travel locally, regionally, and nationally on a frequent basis;
  • Undergraduate degree required; advanced degree preferred.
