President & CEO [Old Westbury Gardens]

Old Westbury Gardens, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is the former home of John S. Phipps, his wife, Margarita (Dita) Grace Phipps and their four children.  Completed in 1906 by the English designer, George A. Crawley, the magnificent Charles II-style mansion is nestled amid 200 acres of formal gardens, landscaped grounds, woodlands, ponds and lakes.  Westbury House is furnished with fine English antiques and decorative arts from the more than fifty years of the family’s residence.

With the impending retirement of John Norbeck, President & CEO since 2006, the Gardens seek an accomplished leader whose proven ability to inspire others has resulted in an organization’s success in reaching unprecedented levels of organizational excellence and quality.  Such leadership requires vision and creativity as well as a demonstration of strategic thinking, critical decision making and the ability to galvanize stakeholders around an inspired vision.

This person must demonstrate consistent success in leading staff to achieve desired ends through a highly participatory and strongly team-oriented approach.  A leadership approach that is typified by an accessible, nurturing and collaborative style must be demonstrated.  A decision-making approach characterized by an open-minded, inclusive, evidenced-based, action-oriented management style is necessary.

Strong finance and operations management experience along with large-scale capital project development oversight is highly desirable.  An understanding of capital spending, construction management and general contracting, particularly in public venues (e.g., working around visitors, tourists, employees) would be particularly relevant.

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university is required.  A graduate degree is preferred.
