Exhibit Designer [Oregon Museum of Science and Industry]

The Oregon Museum of Science & Industry in Portland, OR seeks an Exhibit
Designer

The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry is seeking a full-time Exhibit
Designer that will lead multi-disciplinary teams through the design process
of major projects by designing interactive exhibits, environments and
graphics for print, screen and three dimensional structures.

The ideal candidate will have advanced knowledge of interactive exhibit
design, materials, production and manufacturing processes, industry best
practices, and informal education, ability to create detailed shop drawings,
ability to accurately cost projects, develop and manage budgets,
professional communication skills, both written and oral, including ability
to communicate science principles in a hands-on, informal learning
environment, advanced knowledge of graphic, two- and three-dimensional
design, demonstrate proficiency in sketching, computer aided design (CAD)
and Adobe Creative Suites applications (expert knowledge of Photoshop and
Illustrator), including interfacing with production softwares such as
AutoCAD, Solidworks and CNC softwares, ability to create, coordinate and
perform design presentations to internal and external clients, ability to
work with vendors and freelance designers, ability and experience in making
formal business presentations to outside clients, excellent organizational,
analytical and problem solving skills, ability to exercise initiative and
good judgment in anticipating problems before they arise, strong time
management skills, excellent attention to detail with a high degree of
accuracy, ability to work independently as well as in teams, ability to work
under pressure with flexibility, ability to effectively manage and track
multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize, work well under pressure with
a high degree of accuracy, and meet stringent and overlapping deadlines,
demonstrated skills in teamwork and collaboration with colleagues, with
varied skills and responsibilities meeting individual, departmental and
organizational deadlines, and understanding of confidentiality and protocol.
Nonprofit experience and museum experience is preferred.

Candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Exhibit Design, Environmental
Design, Architecture or Industrial Design or equivalent combination of
experience and education, minimum 2 year of coordination and project
management skills, minimum 1 year of experience working with the public,
formal and informal settings, minimum 6 years of exhibit design experience,
or similar field, minimum 3 years of informal experience in museum-based
design, and pass pre-employment and/or pre-duty checks, such as criminal
background check and reference checks.  Bilingual – Spanish/English and
experience working with volunteers is preferred.

Pay Range: $36,919 – $55,379 per year.
