Position Description:

The National Museum of American Jewish History (NMAJH), on Independence Mall
in Philadelphia, presents educational programs and experiences that
preserve, explore and celebrate the history of Jews in America. Its purpose
is to connect Jews more closely to their heritage and to inspire in people
of all backgrounds a greater appreciation for the diversity of the American
Jewish experience and the freedoms to which Americans aspire.

As a dedicated member of the team, the Visitor Services & Volunteer
Coordinator will be responsible for helping to make the best possible
experience for our visitors – providing both front-line service (out on the
floor) and office assistance – and for coordinating the work of the
extensive Visitor Services volunteer base.

Responsibilities:

*   Greet and assist visitors, provide excellent customer service to all
*   Address and resolve visitor concerns and complaints and troubleshoot
other issues on the floor
*   Schedule, supervise and help recruit and train a large volunteer corps
and follow up when volunteers are absent without notice
*   Conduct daily informational briefings for volunteers to communicate
schedules, upcoming events, floor issues, etc.
*   Perform other volunteer administration tasks, including tracking hours,
sending email updates, processing applications, interviewing new candidates,
etc. and internally advocating for volunteers
*   Respond to phone and email inquiries
*   Assist with group welcoming, orientation and other logistics
*   Ensure staffing of key floor areas (coat room, entry, etc.) by covering
*   Help with daily Museum opening/closing procedures
*   Help with queue lines and crowd control during regular hours and for
special events and programs
*   Oversee operation of Museum floor in absence of Floor Coordinator or
Director of Volunteer Services
*   Perform a variety of other administrative tasks and duties as assigned
by Director
*   Help control/direct visitors during emergencies or evacuations
*   Routinely work weekends, holidays (when the Museum is open) and
frequent evenings

Qualifications:

*   Bachelor’s degree
*   2+ years experience in a customer/guest services role required, working
directly with visitors/the public on a daily basis, ideally in a museum, zoo
or similar public educational/cultural institution
*   Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills,
with the ability to remain poised, professional and courteous in the face of
stressful situations or with challenging visitors
*   Demonstrated ability to pro-actively address issues, with excellent
problem-solving and decision-making skills and sound judgment
*   Genuine enthusiasm for working with people, and experience and comfort
interacting with a diverse visitor base (differing in age, culture, physical
abilities, etc.)
*   Ability to work independently and as part of a team
*   Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
*   Commitment to the mission of the Museum
*   Ability to work flexible hours
*   Experience working with volunteers and some supervisory and scheduling
experience desired
*   Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, Word, Excel, Outlook
*   Familiarity with a POS system environment a bonus
