Reporting to the Senior Grants Officer, the Development Officer, Foundation and Government Relations works closely with MFA program and Development staff to plan and implement strategies for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of foundations and governmental agencies, working toward a program goal of raising $5 million to $10 million. The Development Officer is also responsible for serving as the primary relationship manager for a portfolio of institutional prospects.

Essential functions include: manage a portfolio of foundation and government prospects; identify new prospects; participate in the development of cultivation strategies; draft proposals; oversee submission processes to foundations and government agencies; prepare and submit reports to foundations and government agencies; work in partnership with the Senior Grants Officer to manage the government grants program; responsible for the fiscal management of government grants; work with the Senior Grants Officer to maintain the donor database, electronic files, and generate research reports on prospects; draft acknowledgement letters and other correspondence; ensure that funders are properly credited on all Museum collateral; meet weekly with the Senior Grants Officer to share strategies on prospects and funding opportunities and manage the day-to-day functions of the Department.

35+ hours/week; Mon-Fri, 9:00am-5:00pm.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required, along with 3 to 5 years in the development/fundraising field. Additional qualifications include: excellent writing skills; proven experience in foundation and government grant writing, including a track record of successful five and six figure awards; resourceful and creative in identifying and researching potential funders, including international prospects; strong interpersonal communication skills; strong organizational skills; demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks fluidly and efficiently; goal driven and self-motivated; strong team player; a personality and work style that thrives in a complex, fast-paced environment; ability to handle confidential information; passion for the Museum and its mission.
