Responsibilities: The Manager of Adult Programs develops and implements creative interpretive programs for adult Museum visitors. Programs include an array of traditional and experimental events such as public conversations, performances, roundtable discussions, and artist-driven/social practice platforms for new and diverse audiences. The position engages visitors to look at art and ideas in new ways and to see the Museum as a resource. Most programs are planned for Thursday evenings or the weekends, including Target First Saturdays. The Manager sets long-term goals and determines priorities for the department in conjunction with the Vice Director for Education and Program Development, and other members of the Education staff. The position is responsible for establishing budgets and working with Development to write or develop fundraising proposals. The Manager collaborates with staff throughout the Museum including the Curatorial, Public Information, Editorial, and Design departments. He or she supervises a staff of three full-time coordinators and two full-time temporary paid interns. Production of events will require working weekends and evenings throughout the year.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate must have an M.A. in art history or a related field, with at least three years of program experience in a museum or related institution. She or he must have experience in conceptualizing and producing innovative museum- and community-related programs for adult audiences, and be conversant in the field of adult learning and museum education. The individual must demonstrate experience and serious interest in reaching local community audiences; have excellent general knowledge of art history, performing arts, and film; be able to manage projects and personnel; and work effectively and diplomatically with Museum staff at all levels. Excellent writing and research skills, and a willingness to work some evenings and weekends, are essential. Demonstrable experience in budgeting, supervising staff, and grant writing are also important.
