Founded in May 2004, Baylor University’s Mayborn Museum Complex assembles three distinct entities: the Harry & Anna Jeanes Discovery Center, the Sue and Frank Mayborn Natural Science and Cultural History Museum, and the Governor Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village.  The Mayborn Museum Complex Collection contains over 171,000 cataloged objects and specimens representing the natural science and cultural history of central Texas.  Additionally, the museum is the physical home of the Department of Museum Studies at Baylor University, housing faculty, administration offices, and classrooms.

Reporting to the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Policies, the Director is responsible for the overall planning, development, and management of the Mayborn Museum Complex’s human, fiscal, and physical resources to ensure the accomplishment of goals and achievement of a positive image.

Job Requirements

We seek a proven leader whose experience in organizations with multiple and diverse internal and external constituencies has been characterized by a passion for and commitment to service to community.  This person must be an exceptional communicator and a visible presence in the Waco community as well as Baylor University.  She or he will demonstrate past success in utilizing an inclusive, participatory leadership approach to vision setting, strategic planning, and goal attainment. The Director is expected to be actively engaged with internal stakeholders and external constituents in constructive dialogue and activities that support the museum. Ideally, this person will have a proven track record in successfully guiding an organization through substantive strategic planning to further strengthen museum activities, management and operational functionality.

We seek a leader who can demonstrate success in overseeing exhibit planning, development, and management.  Additionally, we seek an individual experienced in facilitating contributed, philanthropic income, particularly major gifts from individuals.  This person should also possess significant financial management experience, preferably in a higher education environment, but at minimum in the public or nonprofit sectors.
