The PRD Group seeks an Exhibit Content Developer to join our studio in developing content-rich exhibits for museums and other clients across the country. We are a purposely-small exhibit design firm located in Northern Virginia, with a 27-year history of creating innovative story-based academically rigorous interpretive experiences for major museums. You are early in your career, have advanced research and writing skills, a passion for exhibits, an understanding of how objects and images provide insight into both culture and history, and a belief in the power of information to transform thinking. Professional Responsibilities:

1.  Execute content development tasks from preliminary planning through the final design and implementation of projects. These tasks include, but are not limited to:

•                Preliminary research and identification of basic resources for establishing an initial understanding of project subject matter

•                Development of comprehensive research plans tailored to the needs of individual projects

•                Directed research online, in applicable secondary sources, and in primary source archival and artifact collections; review of client provided indexes and summaries of collections

•                Synthesis of research results to produce reports, summaries of applicable collections-based materials, etc.

•                Creation of content outlines, matrices and storylines based on research

•                Collaboration as part of project-based exhibit design teams

•                Assistance with the development of presentation deliverables

2.  Participate in client meetings and ongoing client communication regarding project issues. Report to project supervisor any substantive communication, especially contract related issues.

3.  Assist in coordination and review of submittals from academic consulta, media producers, and other consultants to PRD.

Job Requirements

Training

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in public history, museum studies, or another subject relevant to the research and interpretation of historical content for presentation in a museum environment
  • Related internships or professional experience

Skills

  • Competence in Microsoft Office word processing and spreadsheet programs on a Macintosh platform
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct in-depth research; to develop summaries and reports of research conducted; and to synthesize results of that research
  • Use of material culture and imagery to inform interpretation in museum exhibits
  • Excellence in writing
  • Presentation and communication ability
  • Planning and organizational ability and aptitude
