Associate Educator

The Brandywine River Museum of Art seeks a dynamic and creative Associate Educator to develop, teach, promote and evaluate education and public programs for diverse audiences, especially adults, college audiences and teens. Reporting to the Dean of Education & Public Programs, the Associate Educator develops and implements a full range of multidisciplinary programs related to the museum’s collection and temporary exhibitions of American art, and its historic properties, including the studios of artists N. C. Wyeth and Andrew Wyeth. The Associate Educator helps to develop new audiences through partnerships with community groups and cultural organizations and increases engagement through innovative programs, social media strategies and technology. The qualified candidate will have at least three years of experience working in the education department of an art museum, with an undergraduate degree in art history, studio art or art education (Master’s preferred). The Associate Educator will possess the ability to work in a fast-paced, creative environment both independently and as part of a team, with careful attention to detail and strong project management skills. Excellence in written and verbal communication including the use of social media platforms and interpretive technology, flexibility to work evenings and weekends, and skills in photography and videography are required.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE:                      ASSOCIATE EDUCATOR

                                                BRANDYWINE RIVER MUSEUM

REPORTS TO:                          Dean of Education & Public Programs

BASIC FUNCTION:                   Develops, leads, promotes and documents education and public programs for the museum and historic properties and provides support for all aspects of the education program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Develops and leads programs for all audiences especially adults, college audiences and teens.

2. Coordinates educational programs at the museum and its three historic properties, including scheduling and training staff interpreters and hiring teaching artists.

3. Assists in developing partnerships with community groups and cultural organizations.

4. Develops and teaches training sessions for new and veteran museum guides.

5. Coordinates social media strategies for education office.

6. Conducts surveys for selected educational and public programs and compiles results.

7. Assists in photographing and videotaping selected educational and public programs and editing material for use.

8. Assists as needed with education programs and events.

Job Requirements

ESSENTIAL

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Undergraduate degree in art history, art education or studio art, with Master’s preferred.

2. Minimum of three years of experience working in the education department of an art museum.

3. Ability to work in a fast-paced, creative environment with excellent attention to detail and strong project management skills. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

5. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, and social media platforms.

6. Experience with the development and use of interpretive technology including creating content for mobile sites.

7. Strong skills in photography, videography and film editing.

8. Ability to work evenings and weekends.

9. Transportation to and from the work place and to outside sites as necessary.

10. Ability to lift 30 pounds.
