TITLE: Studio Projects Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Education
REPORTS TO: Director of Community Engagement
TYPE OF POSITION: Full-time /40 hours per week; hourly/non-exempt
Regular schedule requires working Saturdays, school vacation weeks, and third Thursday evening of each month

Scope of Position
The Studio Projects Coordinator is responsible for planning, budgeting, scheduling and facilitating artist projects and other studio activities to engage Museum visitors in the creative process. He/she develops hands-on projects, for visitors of all ages, that spark creative looking and thinking about art, education, landscape and music, and that help visitors make their own connections to art found in the Museum’s collection and special exhibitions. Working with education staff who also use the space in their programs, the Studio Projects Coordinator ensures that the Studio has an especially inviting look and feel, and experiments with inventive ways to use other spaces in the new wing (the greenhouse classroom, for instance).

The Studio Projects Coordinator works with the Director of Community Engagement on planning and implementing art-making activities for school vacation weeks and the Museum’s free programs (Neighborhood Nights, Open Our Doors Day, Frank Hatch Day, etc). In addition, the Studio Projects Coordinator will collaborate closely with the Director of Visitor Learning, the School Partnership Educator, and the Director of Program Planning to develop creative projects for general visitors, teen programs, Third Thursdays, and other events as required.

Responsibilities
• Create a welcoming and lively atmosphere during Studio open hours through room set-up, interaction with visitors, selection of dynamic guest artists and interns, and other means
• Develop year-long schedule of projects for general visitors and work with marketing department on appropriate publicity
• Assist selected artists successfully implement their projects with museum visitors
• Help guest artists shape their projects, including how to share ideas about the creative process in visitor-friendly ways
• Order supplies and coordinate with other department staff to keep materials organized
• Develop and design gallery materials to accompany Studio projects as necessary
• Create assessment tools to evaluate program success (including evaluation of Studio schedule, diversity of Studio participants and their responsiveness to Studio projects) and make adjustments to programs as needed; keep program statistics, write annual and other reports as necessary
• Oversee at least one graduate-level Studio intern each semester and develop and implement appropriate work plan for successful internships
• Collaborate with school programs staff on Teen Art Lab and Student Art Wall installations
• Along with other education staff, help maintain the studio space, keeping it organized and accessible

Qualifications:
Qualifications
• B.F.A. in studio art or related field; M.A. or M.F.A. a plus
• Experience teaching adults and children; experience with VTS (Visual Thinking Strategies) a plus
• 2-5 years experience creating studio projects connected to museum collections
• A creative individual who enjoys collaboration and works well as part of a team
• Excellent planning and organizational skills; ability to manage budgets
• Interest in the connections between historic and contemporary art
• Ability to work collaboratively with artists 
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to produce simple yet imaginative gallery materials
• Experience managing volunteer and intern staff
