GENERAL SUMMARY

The Director, Major Gifts and Corporate Relations has responsibility for cultivation and solicitation of major gifts. This position provides leadership for the major gift officers, their goals and activities, and the corporate giving program. This position works closely with the Vice President of Development and volunteer leadership in attaining stated goals. This position also serves as liaison to one (or more) DIA auxiliary support group.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manage a portfolio of 150+ donors to secure agreed-upon fundraising goals
  • Supervise 3 or more Major Gift Officers to ensure they achieve individual and collective revenue expectations for endowment, membership, corporate, and restricted gifts through a judicious and cost-effective mix of personal solicitations, cultivation events, and other efforts to engage and increase museum support
  • Analyze, identify and implement effective stewardship and retention strategies to strengthen donor relationships with the museum
  • Manage Corporate Relations with a priority to provide stewardship to current donors and to identify and secure funds from new corporate donors
  • Prepare all special correspondence for a portfolio of donors and prospective donors
  • Report to the Vice President of Development on a regular and timely basis on the progress toward established goals
  • Work in conjunction with the Development Committee and Vice President of Development to expand the number of prospective donors
  • Maintain direct responsibility for major gift and corporate relations program budgets, implementing cost controls, fiscal year forecasts, and long-term projections
  • Assist with the Moves Management module of Raiser’s Edge
  • Participate as a part of the Development department team in a collegial fashion
  • Maintain good relationships with all who help facilitate the effective conduct of the Development department
  • Supervise positions may be assigned
  • Carry out other activities as assigned by the Vice President of Development

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following:

  • A Bachelor’s degree
  • Five or more years of experience with cultivation and solicitation of major donors
  • Three or more years training and managing Major Gift Officers to help them achieve their financial goals
  • The ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form
  • The ability to relate to and build meaningful relationships with a diverse population of donors and prospective donors
  • The ability to work on a team
  • Competency and proficiency in computer programs
  • Familiarity with the museum environment
