The Opportunity

The Museum of Flight seeks a seasoned marketing communications professional who is a respectful leader and has experience supervising a high-functioning and creative marketing department. The VP will provide leadership, vision, and guidance for all brand-building and communications work for the museum and develop a comprehensive marketing communications action plan. Managing a six person marketing team the VP will work to lead the team in a manner that builds consensus and inspires internal confidence and cohesion. The VP will stay abreast of new marketing trends and ensure consistent, on-point messaging that is strategically aligned to target audiences both internally and externally.

We are looking for candidates who exude professionalism, maturity, and field knowledge. An exceptional writer, relationship builder, and strategic thinker, the ideal candidate is highly organized and driven by setting goals, developing plans, and executing. This is a multifaceted role requiring equal measures of skill and sophistication in marketing communications strategy, mechanics, management, and leadership.

About the Organization

Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the Museum of Flight is successfully striving toward its vision of becoming the foremost educational air and space museum in the world. Started by a small group of aircraft enthusiasts in 1964, the museum has since grown immensely to include a library and archive, educational facilities, and space to house its ever-expanding collection of artifacts. The Museum’s aviation and space library and archives are the largest on the West Coast.

Job Requirements

Desired Skills and Experience

We seek candidates with a minimum of 10 years progressively responsible leadership experience in marketing and/or communications. The successful candidate will have an excellent understanding of project management, including the ability to identify and resolve issues, manage risk, develop detailed work plans, and allocate resources. Leadership experience in marketing an institution, conceptualization and implementation of integrated marketing communications strategies and teams, including oversight of external market research is preferable.
