The N.C. Department of Cultural Resources is seeking an individual to serve as Director for the N.C. Transportation Museum located in Spencer, N.C.

The North Carolina Transportation Museum is a statewide heritage tourism institution with both historic site and museum components. Historically, the museum was the site of Southern Railway’s major steam repair facility, begun in 1896. The museum is located on approximately 57 acres and is composed of 13 major structures with some smaller facilities. The large Back Shop, Barber Junction Depot, Robert Julian Roundhouse, Master Mechanic’s Office, Flue Shop, Paint Shop, Powerhouse and other surviving buildings provide a seldom viewed example of the creation, sustenance and decline of a single industry. The Roundhouse is the largest surviving structure of its kind in the nation, and the turntable, a national engineering landmark, is the largest still in existence in all of North America.
