Museum Store Volunteer

Description:

The Museum Store Volunteer works to ensure the highest level of museum experience in the Museum Store. The volunteer must provide excellent customer service and greet and engage visitors in conversation for the purpose of sharing information about the museum, store merchandise, programs and exhibits.

  • Welcome guests that enter the Museum Store
  • Answer guest questions regarding the historic site, Salem and surrounding area, other attractions in town in a positive and non-opinionated manner.
  • Recommend other attractions based on guest’s expectations
  • Assigned a duty in the back rooms of the store to help watch for potential shop lifting if this occurs will notify paid staff
  • Dust and clean shelves when communicated by Museum Store Manager

Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • Must have the ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public and other staff members
  • Ability to accept supervision, work both independently and in a group, and be flexible to changing situations.
  • Must be guest focused
  • Have a basic knowledge of historic Salem
  • Be presentable, well groomed, and wear name badge with lanyard (given by The Gables)

How To Apply:

The Gables will be having a Volunteer Orientation meeting on Thursday, June 18th from 10am-12pm. We encourage anyone that would like to volunteer to attend. If you can’t attend and would still like to volunteer please contact Melissa and set up another time to come in.
