SUMMARY STATEMENT:

This position will be responsible for the morning and afternoon classes of Summer School. Instructors are expected to use existing activities to develop a week long plan of themed, hands on, inquiry based science activities. The initial two weeks will be spent in planning and training; instructors will be expected to teach classes for up to 6 weeks in the summer. In the final week the instructors will be responsible for documenting which activities were successful, which were adapted and how, and/or which activities need to be completely redesigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaching 1-2 classes per day for 3 – 6 weeks, classes are 2.5 hours per class.
  • Teaching 15 – 20 students per class
  • Developing and adapting class activities for the week’s theme topic
  • Directing one Teaching Assistant and multiple Summer Youth interns in the classroom

WORK SCHEDULE:

This position is temporary, full-time, 40 hours a week from June 22nd, 2015 to August 18th, 2015.
REPORTS TO:

Director, Education & Enrichment Programs
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One (1) or more years of education experience.
  • Demonstrated success in elementary education setting which includes classroom or group management
  • Demonstrated interactions with caregivers

STARTING SALARY:

Non-Exempt (Hourly). Commensurate with experience.
