Director, Institutional Relations

Description:
Reporting to the Deputy Director, External Relations, the Director, Institutional Relations is responsible for managing and growing an integrated program for institutional support, with annual operating plans, revenue goals, and budgets for all of the component areas. The Director will sustain existing relationships and develop new institutional partners across the corporate sector, foundations, and government agencies. The Director is responsible for managing a team of 4+ professional staff and securing funds and commercial sponsorships to support a range of Museum projects including exhibitions, education and community programs, concerts, films, lectures and more. The Director will serve as the primary staff liaison to foundation and corporate leaders within the Boston-area and beyond. He/she will develop the civic/community/corporate case for support and craft strategies for engaging such leaders as well as their organizations with the MFA. The Director will also be responsible for facilitating and staffing executive-level cultivation and solicitation meetings between these leaders and the Museum Director and/or the Deputy Director, External Relations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in communications or management preferred. Seasoned professional with at least seven to ten years experience in corporate fundraising and project management at the highest levels. Significant experience and demonstrated success in cultivating, soliciting and successfully closing six, seven and eight-figure gifts. Experience in setting, forecasting and meeting program goals – both quantitative and qualitative. Leadership ability and strong management skills. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. A creative thinker who also has strong analytical skills. Ability to relate effectively with a wide range of constituencies. Proven success in a complex and fast-paced environment. Ability to manage multiple priorities.
