SUMMARY STATEMENT:

Deliver educational programming daily/weekly that exemplifies educational excellence and guest service so as to engage and excite our audience in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) content. Contribute new ideas, creativity and perspectives to working with diverse audiences on site and in the community. Learn about and experience science and education and their implementation in a museum, to hone her/his skills and imagination while experimenting with career directions
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Present programs 3 – 4 days per week (either 9 – 12 presentations and/or other school related educational programs/activities) onsite or in the community.
  • Program audience attendance ranges from 20 to 450/presentation/activities, depending on venue and time.
  • About one day/weekly performing maintenance/stocking/construction or research/being trained.
  • New programs learned and created are 4 – 6 minimum.
  • Work one weekend day, some holidays and some Friday evenings, and adjust summer hours as needed.

WORK SCHEDULE:

This position is temporary, full-time, 35 hours/week, with one weekend day, and some holidays and Friday evenings. Schedule will be adjusted for summer hours as needed. The duration of this position is one year.
REPORTS TO:

Manager, School and Youth Programs
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Less than one (1) year or more of Science/STEM Education experience.
  • Bachelors of Science or Arts degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects/activities in a high activity environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate science content in programming for audiences of 20 – 450 people.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and/or repair educational programming equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Experience in delivering educational programming on site or in the community such as a classroom or informal educational setting.
  • Driver’s License to be able to transport staff and educational materials to off-site programming in the community as needed.
  • Comfort with handling and being around live animals.
  • Work one weekend day, some holidays and some Friday evenings, and adjust summer hours as needed.

STARTING SALARY:

Non-Exempt (Hourly). Commensurate with experience.
