Director of Development

Description:
The Fitchburg Art Museum (FAM) is a catalyst for learning, creativity, and community building. We accomplish this mission with art historical collections and exhibitions, special exhibitions of contemporary New England art, education programs, public art projects, community partnerships, and creative economy initiatives. All decisions, initiatives, projects, and programs at the Fitchburg Art Museum reflect our commitment to the greater community. www.fitchburgartmuseum.org   Founded in 1925, FAM is located in a four-building complex, with 20,000 square feet of galleries covering a full city block in downtown Fitchburg, in North Central Massachusetts. Our varied collection of over 4,000 objects features particular strengths in American Art, African Art, and photography. FAM enjoys strong relationships with the cities of Fitchburg and Leominster, and Fitchburg State University. FAM is also working in partnership with the Twin Cities Community Development Corporation to create a campus of affordable artist live/work space in 3 adjacent buildings. FAM is an AAM-accredited institution, with a current staff of 8 FTEs and 6 PTEs, and hourly staff and volunteers. FAM is supported by an $18.2 million endowment, and by an active and engaged Board of Trustees.   The newly rejuvenated FAM now seeks a bright, creative, energetic, and experienced Director of Development to establish and lead a professional fundraising department to support and expand our annual $1.1 million operating budget, and plan for and conduct a capital campaign that will follow our current strategic planning process. FAM’s Director of Development will be responsible for all fundraising activities including overall strategy, donor cultivation and stewardship, major gifts, corporate and foundation grants, Annual Appeal, individual and corporate membership programs, and managing a small support staff. The Director of Development will also be charged with growing FAM’s event rental business in a beautiful new event space. The Director of Development will report to the Executive Director, and hire and manage a new Development Associate, and manage a part-time Director of Corporate Membership. This is a new position at FAM, and provides an exciting opportunity to create, staff, and lead a vital department that will insure the museum’s future success and sustainability.

The successful candidate must have a BA or MA, significant development experience in museums or arts/culture/education organizations, and a proven ability to raise funds in multiple fundraising practices. Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, communications, and IT/computer/social media skills are expected, along with a sophisticated knowledge of Raiser’s Edge. FAM’s Director of Development will also be a vital ambassador for the museum, with highly developed interpersonal abilities, and a team player willing and able to work with a small but passionately dedicated staff and visionary Executive Director. Spanish language skills are a plus.
