Assistant Curator

The Skirball Cultural Center seeks a self-motivated, detail-oriented, multitasking team member with superior research, writing, and communications skills for the position of Assistant Curator. This position reports to the Museum Director and works as a member of the curatorial team. This is a full-time position with benefits.

Job Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in identification, development, and selection of exhibitions, including originating exhibition concepts and preparing exhibition proposals.
  • Assist in management of traveling exhibitions.
  • Assist in preparation of budgets and grants.
  • Research exhibition topics and contribute to exhibition objectives and written materials, including editing of exhibition didactics.
  • Work collaboratively to support smooth coordination of exhibition planning and implementation with all appropriate parties, including exhibition designer, production staff, education staff, store, operations, and registrars.
  • Work collaboratively with other Skirball departments to assist and support exhibition fundraising, programming, and publicity.

Qualifications:

  • MA in humanities, history, art history, anthropology, museum studies, or related field
  • Previous museum work experience with changing exhibits
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, with strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop productive relationships across an organization
  • Demonstrated strength in organizational skills and attention to detail, deadlines, and follow-through
  • A keen appreciation and understanding of the Skirball Cultural Center mission and philosophy
