Job Description

The Associate Director of Digital Strategy is an integral part of moving the institution’s digital initiatives forward to enhance the overall visitor experience both on site and online. The position oversees the development and implementation of Ford’s portfolio of digital offerings, including websites, mobile offerings, video content and digital marketing. This position is also charged to envision the future of digital media and technology use for Ford’s Theatre and works collaboratively across departments to translate our live programming and onsite experience to an online environment. Together with the Director of Communications and Marketing, this position will manage and lead a website redesign, expanding the Theatre’s online presence and extending its reach to diverse audiences in compelling and strategic ways.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Director of Communications and Marketing to lead the Ford’s Theatre website redesign process, ensuring that the project stays on time and on budget and closely aligns with the institution’s strategic goals
  • Work closely with the Director of Communications and Marketing to implement a comprehensive mobile strategy, to include responsive websites, mobile applications and other emerging technologies
  • Work with the theatre’s Education Department to find creative ways to reach educators, administrators and students online and to implement online education programs in a way that engages the 21st-century learner
  • Work with content managers, designers and developers as appropriate to develop web applications and ensure that online initiatives successfully serve our audiences
  • Work closely with the Marketing Manager and other departments to implement the institution’s social media strategy, cultivating conversations, engaging audiences and establishing Ford’s as a field leader
  • Work with the Associate Director of Communications to ensure that the Ford’s Theatre blog is a dynamic and educational outlet that cultivates conversations and raises the profile of the institution
  • Continue to learn and be informed of emerging technology and trends
  • Develop, implement and analyze user evaluations
  • Monitor and report on web statistics
  • Support online advertising, SEO and SEM activities, ensuring integration with other digital efforts
  • Working with Education, Visitor Services and external contractors, develop and implement interactive tools for interpretation of the site
  • Prepare, publish and maintain content on the Ford’s website and related digital content products (including video and enewsletters) in coordination with other staff and vendors
  • Maintain consistent branding standards across all digital platforms
  • Provide technical support for blog, Facebook page, Twitter feed and other digital content activities

Job Requirements

Qualifications

Education:

  • BA or BS required; with a concentration in communications, multi-media, digital media or digital communications preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Deep understanding of current and emerging technologies
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Extensive knowledge of HTML and CSS
  • Familiarity with web and mobile development content management systems (such as Drupal, Joomla or WordPress), and scripting languages
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics and Google Adwords
  • Experience with video-editing platforms like Final Cut Pro, Avid or Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Experience managing major social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook and YouTube
  • Passion for history or the performing arts

Experience:

  • 3 years experience managing content and production for high-traffic websites; 1 or more years in a museum or other nonprofit arts organization preferred
